38 Week Update...almost there!

38 weeks and clearly very big, puffy and uncomfortable!  Don't let the smile fool you!

Just a quick update on Baby Girl David.  I will be 38 weeks tomorrow and it looks like we might be having the baby this week!  At my 37 week check I was already 3 cm and 70% effaced.  But I've been having twice-weekly checks and fetal monitoring for the past 2 weeks and the baby seemed perfectly content in there with plenty of room and fluids so Dr. Kroll said I could sit at 3 cm for a while.

But, today when I went in I was already at 4 cm and the doc could feel the baby's head very low and my bag of waters bulging.  She thinks the baby is ready to come out.  So she did a very aggressive, and might I add, painful membrane strip to see if she could get things moving.  She said typically when this happens the baby will arrive within the next 24 hours.  However, she added the disclaimer that it could also be a few days.  Then when she left she said, "See you in a few hours!"  I am so confused.  Ugg....I really can't stand the uncertainty of it all.  Sitting here waiting for our baby to arrive is killing me.  So I decided to write a blog while Christian cleans.  I guess we have very different ideas on how to stay calm.

Christian is convinced she is coming today so we are prepping to leave for the hospital any minute.  But there isn't much left to do.  We've pretty much been packed and ready for days. The house is clean, the bills are paid, the fridge is stocked.  Hair and make up are done.  I even sent out my Father's Day cards this morning just in case.  Sooooo, what's a girl to do while she waits to go into labor.  Considering the condition of my haggard feet, I might just go get a pedicure.  Am I nuts?  I would like to look good at the hospital but this might be a bit risky.  I just hope my water doesn't break in the nice comfy spa chair!  Oh, the horror!

Ok, I guess that's it.  I probably won't blog again until we have an announcement to make.  So it's time to sign off as a mother of 2 for the last time.  I am so excited I can hardly stand it.  I just can't wait to meet my little girl and see her face for the first time.  What a wonderful week its going to be for our family.  I am feeling very blessed right now.  Bye for now...off to the salon...

Gav's off to Preschool!

I am so happy to report that our little Gavin is officially a preschooler!  He's 20 months old and I feel like intellectually he's been ready for several months now, but socially we knew it would be hard on him if we sent him too soon. But now he's so ready for more stimulation than I can provide at home and we want him to have something all his own.  It's time for him to make friends, learn and become more independent.  And honestly, with the baby coming, mommy needs some more quiet time and an opportunity to bond with the baby without the maniac running around.  Whatever the reason, we are thrilled that he's joining Jack at school.

We wanted to make the transition as smooth as possible so we eased him into it.  Last Friday he went for an hour but Monday was his official first day.  So we did 2 hours Monday, 3 on Wednesday and a full 4 hours on Friday.  Monday was a little rough and he cried a lot but by Friday they said he only cried for about 20 minutes in the morning and was great for the rest of the day!  I was so worried about him all week but he was brave and did awesome!  We are so proud of our little man.  His teachers, Ms. Fifi and Ms. Grace are so calm and loving with him. They are angels!  So overall this has been a great thing for everyone.  Here are the good (and bad) pics from the week.  I didn't take too many in the classroom because I didn't want to linger in there too long...

First day of school!  Posing in the morning with big brother who is there to show him the ropes at school.  Even though Gav is getting so big,  when I see him next to Jack, the Beast, and he still looks small...

I'm ready to go mom!  He has no idea what is in store for him...

Still smiling!  Probably because he still thinks we are only dropping Jack off as we usually do...

We love Gav's classroom....such sweet teachers and adorable kids. They are so happy to have Gavin join the family...

And the tears begin.  This picture just kills me because he looks so sad, even in his daddy's arms.  My poor baby...

A brief moment of play, but he's still a little insecure.  Time for mommy and daddy to leave...

Friday morning!  We thought maybe wearing his favorite Buzz Lightyear shirt would give him super powers to fight through his 3rd day of school...

Of course, Jack had to match...

All smiles at the end of his first week of school!  Great job Gavin!!

The Boys New Room!

With the impending arrival of our little princess, we knew it was time to move the boys to the same room.  We've been wanting to do it since April but it was a process that both Christian and I dreaded because we knew it would disrupt the nights of peaceful sleep we had enjoyed for more than a year.  So to excite the boys about their new living arrangements we gave them a CARS themed room.  Ok, I swore I would never allow my kids to have any sort of cartoon theme at all.  But if its one thing I learned about parenting its to never say never.  Because if it gets them to sleep better in their room than I am all for it.

We officially pulled the trigger 3 weeks ago and I'll grade the boys a solid B-minus.  It actually started off pretty good and Gav slept through the night the first few days.  But from there it's been hit or miss.  Gavin thinks bedtime is playtime because he's in the room with Jack so he's like a wild man.  It usually takes us about 30 minutes to get them both settled.  We're hopeful that decreases as Gavin gets used to his new surroundings!  Some nights they sleep through and others they wake each other up.  But overall I'd say it's gone better than expected.  The boys love their new room and they love being in there together. It's really adorable to see them sleeping together.  Check out their new digs....

Jack loves having a big kid bed!  His Gigi and Papa helped us buy it and he is sleeping so much better than before - he was WAY too big for the toddler bed!  So we gave Gavin Jack's old toddler bed and so far he loves it...

Papa Joey got the boys these authentic Disney CARS prints.  I think they look great in the room and they also blend really well with the comforters...

We used the boy's letters from when they were each in the nursery.  And I found a bookcase and some great frames from Ikea...one day I will fill them with pictures....

I love my new room!  There are so many things the boys enjoy doing in their room now...

Like practicing Yoga...

Jumping on my new bed...

Or even more fun...jumping on big brother's bed...

Having a new home for our friends...

Oh, and of course, sleeping...

Or not sleeping...

They love when daddy joins them and they all cuddle in Jack's bed...

But sometimes its nice just to fall asleep with my brother...
