Dylan is 7 Months Old!

I can't believe our little girl is already 7 months old!  It's terrifying to me because once babies pass the 6 month mark, they are basically on their way to turning one.  And I just can't think of her getting so big.  I feel like she was just born.  But I don't have time to be sad because we have a lot to get to.  It's safe to say that this has been the biggest developmental month for Dylan.  She's changed so much, it's almost like she's a new baby!

Her first trick this month was sitting up.  She started in Chicago and by the time we got home she was an old pro.  She loves sitting up and playing with her toys.  It's like a whole new world opened up to her.  Then, a few days later she broke 2 teeth.  They are so cute!  And as all of this was happening she mastered the art of rolling over...front to back, left to right and right to left.  She can do it all and she now rolls all over the floor to get to us or her toys.  So finally she doesn't scream her head off at night when she gets stuck on her stomach.  Needless to say we are all sleeping a lot better these days!

The one thing this child still won't do is eat.  She loves her formula but that's about it.  I have tried every kind of baby food, yogurt, mashed up fruit, Puff's and rice cakes.  And still nothing!  She'll eat a bite or two and then start spitting it out.  It's beyond frustrating.  The boys would basically eat anything we put in front of them.  But this little miss has her own ideas.  My mom says that Dylan is just like I was as a baby...I used to spit out food, cry a lot, constantly need attention. Yep, that's my little girl.  Even though she looks nothing like me, she's still mine in so many ways.

Emotionally, Dylan is like Jekyll and Hyde.  On one hand she's the happiest, sweetest baby ever.  She loves to cuddle and is so connected with us.  She likes to play, listen to music and read books.  And she giggles like crazy when her brothers are around.  But when she's unhappy, you'd better look out.  This girl can turn on a dime.  One minute she'll be happily playing and the next she'll be screaming her head off.  And man can she scream, which is sometimes accompanied by an arched back...a little tantrum perhaps.  I think I have my work cut out for me when this on is 3!

Her stranger danger has gotten a little bit better and we can now leave her with sitters.  But ultimately, her happiest place is really when she's in my or daddy's arms or with her brothers who adore her.  Sometimes her constant need for attention can be annoying but most of the time I love it.  There's something amazing about your baby needing you and you being able to provide her comfort.  I know I will have to change those habits in the future but for now I am happy to oblige.  I love to be with my girl more than anything.

So as you know I got a new camera.  Can I get an Amen!  It takes great pictures but I am still trying to play with it and figure out all of the different settings.  So there are some pictures with funky exposure.  And some of these pics were taken with my old camera before I transitioned to the new one so they are all over the place.  But she's still my ridiculously adorable Dillie in all of them...

I thought this was a sweet profile shot.  She's still so chubby!  What's she storing in those cheeks...

Ok, I know I am a horrible mom for posting this picture where she is clearly unhappy.  But it was the only way I could show her 2 new toofers...

Dylan isn't always crying!  She's actually a happy little girl (as long as mommy is near by!). And she clearly has a huge mouth to express that happiness...

Dylan and her posse!  There are actually 6 little gals in her gang, all between the ages of 6 to 11 months.  I met their mom's through Stroller Strides and we've become really good friends.  I'm so fortunate to have found such a great group of moms and a playgroup for Dylan.  We have of lots fun wine and formula play dates.  Here is Audrey, Eleanor, Dylan and Natalie...

And little Sienna...

Dylan gets LOTS of love and attention from her brothers!  They are so amazing with her...

Dylan makes the funniest facial expressions now.  It's like she wears her heart on her sleeve.  This is the face I get when I try to feed her Puffs.  She's not too sure about them now but if she's anything like her bro's she will learn to LOVE them!

More time with the boys!  Now that she's sitting up and becoming more active, Jack and Gavin always want to play with her and hold her.  I love seeing these three faces together.  I'm soaking these moments up because I know they won't last forever...

Drool much?  Dylan seriously drools like a Rottweiler...

Fat and happy!  That's what I used to call Jack when he was her age.  She loves playing with her puppy Violet...

Meanwhile...Batman and Superman are saving the world...

These are a few of her favorite things...

My three little monkeys in the morning!  They crack me up. And Dylan thinks her big brothers are the coolest kids on the planet.  Nobody can make her laugh like they can...

Dylan is rolling all over the place right now and she's actually starting to enjoy playing on her tummy...

But she still prefers sitting up and mugging for the camera!  My girl....

Here's a little video of how fun it is to feed my daughter...

New Year's In Chicago!

Happy New Year!  Welcome to my first blog post of 2014!  Now, I realize I am long overdue for a new look and cover photo, seeing as how I have added a third child to the family who is already 6 months old!  But that will have to wait because you know I can never acknowledge new happenings until I have respectfully reported on the old.  So before I jump into anything else I wanted close out 2013 and share my photos from our New Year's trip to Chicago.

It was such an awesome visit!  The entire family hadn't been together since March and everybody got to meet Dylan for the first time.  We also met Mandi and Mike's daughter Payton, who was lives in New Jersey and was born 2 days after Dylan, so it was a very special trip all around. We stayed with Melanie and her 3 kids so my little ones were in heaven with all of the attention.  Well, everyone but Dylan.  She wasn't too thrilled with all of the fuss so she cried a lot.  It was a bummer because I wanted everyone to see how adorable she is, but she wasn't quite her best.  The little stinker did finally warm up to everyone...the day we left!

But Jack and Gavin loved all of the attention they got from the family...especially their cousins Sami, Carson and Sophia.  They are so great with my kids and kept them happy and entertained the entire time.  My boys jumped right in the mix as if no time had passed - it was really awesome to see them bond with their extended family.  Sami is such a little mommy and took great care of Dylan even when she was crying.  And Dylan actually warmed up to her pretty quickly which was great.  Jack split his time between Carson and Sophie and loved hanging out with both of them.  Gav was all over the place, being his typical rambunctious self.  I think we owe a few people some money for broken Christmas decorations and ornaments.  But he really took to Gigi and Papa the most which was super cool!  We Skype them often so we have been able to keep in touch even when we can't be together.  I love Skype!

The entire visit was super relaxing.  We opened presents, ate, hung out, ate, watched movies, ate more, napped, ate and talked while we ate.  Did I mention we ate a lot!  Hey, that's what vacations are for!  The holidays were so rushed so it was nice to just sit and catch up with everyone.  And it was adorable to see Payton and Dylan together for the first time. I wish they all lived closer so we could spend more time together.  It's very important to me that my kids stay connected to Christian's family even though they live 2000 miles away.  I'm not one of those wives who dislikes her in-laws.  I actually think I hit the jackpot with them!  I love visiting Chicago and always look forward to their visits here.

I definitely think the coolest part of the trip was the chance to be in the snow....especially for Jack!  All he wanted on this visit was to see the snow so we were thrilled when we arrived and there was still some on the ground.  Then it proceeded to snow for the next few days so he was over the moon.  It was really, really cold but I don't mind that for a few days.  I can handle it as long as I know I can come back to SoCal and slip into my flip flops, which I did immediately!  But for Jack, who never gets to experience cold and snow, this was really a special treat!

We are so grateful to Melanie, Gigi and Papa for the hospitality and yummy meals.  And to everyone for all of the Christmas gifts....they were so generous with my kids.  So overall it was a terrific trip! I didn't get as many pictures as I would have liked but the ones I got are gems.  Enjoy...

Dylan's first time in the snow!  She lasted for about 10 minutes before she started crying.  But she looked adorable in her snow suit and hat...

Jack was seriously in heaven here!  When we went outside he said..."I've been waiting for this day for my whole life!"  It was priceless!  Here he is with Carson and Sophie...

Dylan loved her cousin Sami who is the best baby sitter ever!  I think that Dylan looks a lot like Sami...

Our little shredder!  Jack took to the snowboard very quickly.  It was just a small hill but he was so great at it.  He never fell.  I, on the other hand, ate it twice and gave up.  Jack's just a natural athlete...

He was dorable in Carson's old snow outfit!  So thankful that Melanie kept all of it...

Gav was less interested in the snow.  He lasted for about 15 minutes before he wanted to go inside.  He's definitely a California boy!  Here he is in Jack's old snow outfit from Atlanta...

Ready to sled with Daddy...

The next day it started really snowing and didn't stop for the next 2 days.  It was so beautiful...

Jack took advantage of the fresh powder and went out for another day of fun...

Some big news from the trip is that Dylan started sitting up.  It literally happened over night.  Here she is sitting like a big girl...

Payton and Dylan's first picture together!  I know it's not the best picture ever but I just had to share it...

My kids got lots of love from the family.  Here's Dylan with her Aunt Dani, who drove from the city to the burbs every day to come see us.  What a great auntie!!

Mandi and her precious baby girl Payton, who is seriously the best baby ever!

The most fascinating bow in the universe...

What a great picture of Dylan and her Gigi and Papa!  Now you can see where Lady D gets her good looks!  She is definitely a David...

Dillie and her Aunt Melanie, who was such an amazing hostess to my crazy family! As I always say, "We bring the circus with us!"  She got lots of QT with Dylan, even if she did cry during a lot of it...

On NYE we went bowling with a bunch of Christian's friends and their families.  It was so much fun!  The kids really loved to bowl...

Dylan got dolled up for New Year's in her sassy leopard pants and a big bow, of course...

One word...Trouble....

The kids got festive with hats and party favors...

Bam!

That's our Gav!!!

Happy New Year!  Bye-Bye 2013 and Hello 2014!
