We changed things up a bit this year and decided not to travel for Christmas. We were are little sad and apprehensive about being alone for the holiday but it turned out to be wonderful. Of course we missed seeing family, but it was so nice not to hassle with airports, traffic and bah-hum-bug travelers!
Even though Jack didn't understand what was going on, he was so precious all week. Maybe it was the new organic peas or the wrapping paper he could eat. But I like to think it was the fact that mommy and daddy were home with him for 2 weeks. It was awesome family time!
I originally thought we would celebrate at home, just the three of us, but it turns out people love to adopt the strays around the holidays. We kicked off the festivities with a lovely Christmas Eve dinner at my boss Mary Lynne's house. It was a hodge podge of family, friends, neighbors, great food and lots of good wine, which made for a fun night! Jack showed his appreciation by peeing on Mary Lynn's duvet cover. That's our boy!
We woke up on a chilly Christmas morning, opened gifts and then made a big ole breakfast. It was nice to wake up in our own bed and spend a quiet morning with our little man. Then we got it together and headed to my friend Sarah's parents house for a bit. We brought over Peach Bellini's and enjoyed a cocktail hour with them. Finally, we finished the night with an Italian dinner at my other boss, Lisa's house. We played games and Christian helped put together a bike for her 7 year old daughter Sophie. He's a sucker for little girls.
We capped off the holiday with a visit from Gigi and Papa who made the trip from Chicago. They stayed for four days and bonded with Jack. Gigi had fun playing with Jack and feeding him his sweet potatoes, which Papa then taught him to spit out. Thanks a lot Don! But he did put together Jack's new jumparoo so we can't be too mad at him. It was so great that they were able to come and spend quality time with Jack. We were sad to see them go but Gigi will be back in a few days to watch Jack while we are in Cancun for Jess & Donna's wedding.
So overall it was a memorable and fun Christmas. But by far the best part was just having Jack with us. We feel like we are starting life all over and now we get to see the world through his eyes. It's an amazing feeling to have all of these new experiences with him.
Whew! That was a mouthful! Sorry for the epic post. I guess that what happens when I only post every two weeks. I promise to get better in the new year...famous last words. Enjoy a few pictures from Jack's first Christmas....
Christmas Morning! Jack woke up a little grumpy - how appropriate are those PJ's! And I'm loving the drool on the sheet - he takes after his mommy.
After he woke up a bit, we changed him into these adorable jammies, courtesy of his Aunt Patricia.
Santa definitely stopped at the David house!
Jack in his new jumparoo. He didn't love it at first but it's growing on him. He would rather eat the green cords than jump.
