Gavin James is 9 Months Old!

For once I am actually on time with a blog post! Gavin turned 9 months today! And it's official - he's a crawler.  He was a late bloomer with his physical milestones but let me tell you, the boy is making up for it.  A month ago he was barely sitting up, now he's crawling and starting to pull himself up.  And he went from scooting to full on fast crawling in about 5 days.  He's totally mobile which is scary.  The other day I went to the closet for 30 seconds and when I came out he was in the hallway near the stairs.  Definitely time to baby proof the house!

Gavin had a rough end to his eight month - in the span of about 10 days he got 4 new teeth (if your counting that's 8 total), had a growth spurt, got a double ear infection and then flew across the country which wreaked havoc on his schedule.  But thankfully that's all behind him and he's his happy-go-lucky self again.  I'd say he's even happier now that he is mobile. It's as if a whole new world opened up for him and he's just so excited to explore it.  He literally plays for hours at a time, which is great for me because I can get so much more done now around the house.  He'll just crawl around talking to his toys and laughing.  Such a great kid!

He absolutely loves playing with his big bro Jack and especially loves playing with big bro's toys.  He's not at all interested in the lights and sounds of his Fischer Price baby toys when he can play with Jack's cool cars and action heroes.  Needless to say, the competition has begun and Jack is having to learn to share with Gavin.  I'll have to give Jack a B- in the sharing department, but we're working on it.  Other than that the boys actually play really well together and Gavin still loves a good wrestling match with Jack.  You can tell they really love each other which is so awesome.

Gavin also loves to be outside....swimming, going to the park, being around other kids just makes him happy.  And he really enjoys his bedtime reading - Elmo is his favorite character, of course.  He's learning to clap and dance so we are playing lots of music in the house.  And his stranger anxiety is slowly going away so I'm signing him up for a gymboree class in the fall.  I think it's time for him to get out and play with other babies his own age.  I can't wait for that!

Gav is pretty much over his baby food.  Besides those awesome squeezers, he only wants real food now so we've been trying out everything.  He'll basically eat anything we throw his way - tonigth he ate a quesadilla, pork, rice and black beans - I was very impressed.  He's 21.10 lbs which is 75th percentile for weight.  And his height is 30.25 inches which is 95th percentile.  He's a strong baby and all of sudden has found a little temper.  He's a lot like me....pretty much happy all the time but don't make him mad!  I definitely see some tantrums in my future - ugg!

So that's Gav in a nutshell.  I could go on and on about all the awesome things he does but I won't bore you with all those stories that only a mother thinks are cute.  All I can say is that he's an amazing little dude.  We're always together so he's like my sidekick.  I just love him to pieces!  Here are some pictures from the past few weeks (NYC pics will be in a separate blog)...

Gavin gone Wild....

He's all smiles now that he can see the world...

I absolutely adore his chubby little profile...

Chillin at the pool...this floater is the best $30 I ever spent! He'll sit in this for an hour while Jack plays and mommy relaxes...sort of...

Ready to crawl and cause some trouble...

I love playing with my big bro...

In the big leagues now that he can drive in the wagon with Jack!  Can I just tell you that pulling 65 lbs of David boys is back breaking...

Outside in the gorgeous Orange County weather - my favorite place to be!  We're so lucky to live here...

Here's Gavin on the move.  This was taken a few days ago so he's already a lot faster than this....

May Days!

Seeing as how we are half way through June, this post is obviously really overdue.  But I just wanted to post a few pics of our Christian's 40th / Mother's Day / Gigi & Papa Weekend Extravaganza last month.  Needless to say, we had A LOT going on that weekend and we somehow packed it all in and had great fun!  We kicked off the festivities with Christian's 40 Years of Awesomeness birthday bash at Rooftop Bar in Laguna Beach.....followed by a delish Mommie's Day brunch....both of which were made all the more special because we had Gigi and Papa in from Chicago to celebrate with us and spend some QT with the kiddos....AKA....mommy and daddy alone time.  Three cheers for grandparents!  Anyway, lucky for you, it's late and I'm tired so I'm not going to recap all the details.  Just wanted to share some of the great pictures we took.  Enjoy...

Gavin's First Words!

Ok folks, it's official....Gavin said his first word!  And much to my delight, it was...MAMA!  He's been babbling it for a while but we never really felt like he knew what he was saying.  But for the past few days he's been looking at me while he says it.  So tonight, Christian asked him, "Gavin, where's mama?"  Gav looked right at me and said MAMA!  It was so incredibly awesome! There really are no better words to hear from your children (until they are 2 and you wish sometimes you didn't have to answer). But honestly, I felt that since Jack's first word was dada, I deserved this one, right?!

Gavin is really starting to identify things....he knows who mama, dada and Jack are, and he can point to jack's cars AND he can point to Elmo in a book.  He's a genius!  If only his motor skills were as on point.  He's still not crawling, but it's not for the lack of effort.  The kid really tries hard but he just can't seem to move.  I'm hoping by his 9 month birthday I can post that he's finally crawling.  I remember Jack being a late bloomer but once he got started he learned it all in flash and was walking by 11 months.  Go Gavin Go!

Gavin James is 8 Months Old!

Whoa!  Just writing the title of this post freaked me out a little bit.  I can't believe our baby is 8 months old....He actually turned 8 months last Monday but we all know how late I am on the blog posts these days! We've already started talking about his 1st birthday party which makes it all the more real just how fast he is growing up. And try as we may, Christian and I just can't seem to slow it down.  So amidst all the chaos of our hurried lives we do try to soak in all the precious moments that we can. Gavin is such a fun-loving, happy little guy and we love being with him and his bro Jack!

The biggest news is that Gav is officially a sitter-upper!  A few weeks ago he just started sitting up and never looked back.  Now he's even getting up on all fours and attempting to crawl.  But the poor thing can only go backwards.  It's so sad - he attempts to crawl to a toy and ends up farther from it.  And he just looks at me like, Mom, help me! But he's a smart kid so I know he'll figure it out soon.

Gavin has also mastered the art of feeding himself.  His current finger food diet consists of puffs, yogurt melts, diced fruit, diced soft cheese and his all-time-favorite...macaroni and cheese. And he can eat all of this because he now has 6 teeth with 2 more on the way! I think he loves the taste of real food so much that now he's not so into his baby food.  So I guess it's time to bring on the big-boy food for the little guy.  Well, I shouldn't say little as he is quite the porker.  He's gotten very chubby and is currently 21 lbs and 29 inches, putting him in the 75th-90th percentile. He's well into 12-18 month clothing and in about a month he'll probably outgrow the carrier and need to go in the real car seat!

Gav looks so much like Christian now.  His face has filled out and he's starting to get tons of blond curls.  It's adorable!  And much to my dismay, he's starting to show signs of becoming a daddy's boy.  But he's still very much attached to me so I am hopeful that he won't completely abandon me like Jack did.  And he's still in throws of separation anxiety which makes leaving him with anyone very difficult.  I hope that me being gone for work this week isn't too hard on him.  He's such a sensitive little dude, but mama's got to work.  Here are a few photos of him as he starts his 8th month of life...

He loves to eat the props...

Gavin started to get fussy so Jack jumped in with his fart machine to make him laugh.  (Yes, we now have a fart machine in the house, courtesy of my 3rd child, Christian).  Gavin was not amused.  I'm with ya Gav...

Look at our big boy sitting up!

I am so excited that I get to play with Jack's toys now that I can sit up...

Ready for my first trip to the neighborhood pool!  Getting a lift from Papa...

At first he didn't know what to think...

But it didn't take long for him to love it!  Unfortunately Jack and daddy weren't there to enjoy the pool day with us.  Jack had to go to the ER because he got bit by a black widow.  Thankfully he was ok!  Another blog for another day...

Gav and mommy soaking up the rays!  Mommy sure needs a tan on those white legs...

Drying off with grammy Delora!   My kids are so lucky to have so many wonderful people to love them...

More fun with Jack's old toys!   This is Gavin's favorite...

Oops, I fell!  Guess I'll just laugh it off...
