Gavin James is 11 Months!

Yes, our little peanut turned 11 months on Tuesday and we are officially in the home stretch for his first birthday.  It's CA-RAY-ZEE to think that he will be one in less than a month.  And although we are in full-fledged party mode I am going to attempt to slow it down a bit and just savor the last few weeks of his baby-hood, because I definitely see toddler-hood on the horizon.  Gavin is cruising all over the house, standing on his own for 10-15 seconds and walking with assistance.  So I really think he'll be walking in the next month.  I love when babies walk at their first birthday party so I'll be working with him on it.

And once the walking starts my little baby will be G-O-N-E!  But I honestly think he will be much happier when he's walking.  He basically wants to do everything that Jack does so he'll be able to keep up with his big bro when he's more mobile.  He really is like Jack's shadow, especially when it comes to his toys.  He doesn't even play with his own toys anymore - it's all about Jack's cars.  He is obsessed with Lightening McQueen - not because he knows what it is but because it's Jack's favorite car.  I think we might need to get him his own Lightening because they are constantly fighting over it. Gav certainly gives Jack a run for his money!

So this month has been the most fun, yet most challenging with Gavin.  His level of cuteness has hit an all time high, but with that also came the bad stuff....when he hit 10 months he found his voice, his temper and a new found independence.  Needless to say we have had some not-so-fun moments with the little guy.  He loves to scream at the top of his lungs for just about any reason and he always wants to be on the floor....no matter where we are.  So it's difficult to take him out, especially to restaurants.  I'm hoping this stage will pass very soon or I fear I will have another temper-tantrum throwing child on my hands.

But on the flip side he is so stinking cute that the bad stuff doesn't bother us so much.  He's so much fun and so playful now.  He loves to play chase, hide-and-seek and peek-a-boo which makes him laugh hysterically.  And his laugh just kills me.  I want to eat him up!  He also learned tons of new tricks like giving high-fives, waving bye-bye, talking on the phone, pointing to belly-bottons and crawling up the stairs.  He's also up to about 6 words now - mama, dada, papa, ball, bye-bye and Jack, which actually sounds like Dack.

Gavin loves balls, cars, blocks, playing outside, books, throwing things, eating sweets and dancing to music.  Gavin also loves to be around other kids so I've been taking him to music class and to Gymboree.  He enjoys both of them so much and has a great time interacting with other children his age.  Although, he can be kind of a brute!  He's a little rough with the other kids - I think it's because he wrestles with Jack and Christian.  So I'm going to have to work on his softer side.  But he's still so sweet and loving.  He's my little cuddle bug who still lets me kiss him 10,000 a day, unlike his bro.  I'll actually be sad when he's walking and not attached to my hip at all times.....hmmmm, maybe not!  Here are a few pics of Gav in action...

I seriously can't get enough of those chubby cheeks...and big feet!

Gav loves to ride the motorized bike we got Jack for his first birthday.  Gavin is way more of a dare devil.  Jack wouldn't go anywhere near it for months...

His new favorite thing is to ride the carousel at the Irvine Spectrum.  It's a great outdoor shopping center so we go there often and this is the main attraction for both kiddos...

He looks like a future class bully here...

Mommy and Jack joining in on the fun...

Oh hey look, the carousel again!  My dear friend Sarah was in town last weekend so we met here at the Spectrum for lunch and I made her ride - hehe!  The other thing to note is Christian's hair - it's short again!!  He looks so handsome with short hair!!

Look at my new trick!

Uh-oh, I got caught!

But I'm cute so I'll just smile and mom won't be mad...

The boys favorite new hiding place!  Anywhere Jack goes, Gav isn't far behind...

While dad and bro wrestle it out in the yard, Gav grabs the opportunity to play with his favorite orange basketball...which happens to be Jack's.  Check out that grin like he's saying, haha, it's all mine...

Music Class!  I'm pretty sure Gav swiped that instrument from the poor little boy sucking his thumb...

Shake your maracas...

I think this toy is for rattling but Gavin likes to bang on it.  I seriously have wild children...

Here's Gav climbing up the stairs for the first time.  As you can see he was very proud of himself. This was 2 weeks ago so now he zooms up in about 5 seconds...

And just to prove how much Gavin loves the carousel...

Our "Little" Pre-Schooler!

Jack moved up to the pre-school class in June but summertime is mostly fun with a little bit of learning.  He's had a blast with water play, bounce houses, cooking classes, movie days, ice cream parties and more!  I hope he doesn't think school is always like that!  The year officially starts in early September so we went to his back-to-school night last week so he could show us around his new classroom.  He absolutely loves his new teacher Ms. Sarah and all of his buddies who moved up with him.  I'm so thrilled that he loves school because it's really good for him to go play, learn and spend time with his peers.  And his teacher really is a true gem - we love her too!

He also had his 3 year well check yesterday so I wanted to share his latest stats.  He's 100th percentile for both height and weight, measuring in at 44.4 lbs and 41 3/4 inches high!  Our doc said he's bigger than the average 5 year old.  And he wears a size 13 shoe.  As you can see in the picture above his feet are very large like his mamas!  I asked the doctor if we should be concerned that he is so big and she said there are absolutely no concerns.  He's just a healthy, growing boy.  He also passed his hearing and vision tests with flying colors so he's in perfect health.  We're so proud of our big boy!  He's such a great kid who makes us laugh every day.  Love you buddy!

Summertime in the OC

Our first summer back in SoCal has been quite a blast!  After 9 summers of heat and humidity in Georgia, it's so nice to be back in the land of near-perfect weather in Orange County.  So we've definitely made the most of it and have been spending all of our free time outdoors or just having fun with the fam.  I have so many pictures and no time to do that many blog posts, so I am putting them all in one!  Here's what we've been up to during our summer of fun...

We hit the beach...

Jack surveyed the waves with dad...

Then he decided to go it alone...

And he got wet...

So he decided to make some sandcastles with dad...

Gavin wasn't so sure about the sand...

So he decided to just take in the view...

 And just look adorable....

The boys rocked their matching board shorts and rash guards...

So we could go to the pool....A LOT!

One of ten thousand jumps in the pool...

Gavin formed his Diaper Posse....currently 4 members strong...

Mom dressed the boys alike for the Orange County Fair...

Gav got a lift from mom at the Fair...

We took  few rides with Jack...

Jack drove a pink car...

Then got his boy-card back with an orange monster truck...

We ate...

We ate A LOT!  Not pictured are the deep fried oreos, cinnamon rolls and chocolate dipped ice cream cone...

And somewhere in the middle of all this fun, Jack landed a few summer jobs...

Grocery store clerk...

Fast food drink maker...

Chef...

Doctor...

Stripper...

Drag queen...

And my personal favorite...Olympian...

And because summer is so tough on my kids...they slept...

10 Years!

Today Christian and I will be celebrating our 10 year wedding anniversary!  What a huge milestone for us!  Believe it or not I am at a loss for words here.  How do I put into words 12 years of partnership, a decade of marriage, and 3 years of parenthood?  And how can I possibly describe our extraordinary life in one blog post?  Should it be sappy, funny, loving, nostalgic, real or all of the above?

So I started looking back at our old photos for inspiration. And I didn't get far before I realized that we really have had such an amazing journey so far.....2 states lived, 23 states and 6 countries visited, 7 jobs had, 1 house built, 2 children created and countless hours of memories made.   We have been incredibly blessed to have had such amazing experiences in such a short amount of time. And no matter what the years have brought us, good or bad, we still enjoy being together and I know there is nobody else in the world I want to share this life with than my husband.

A while back I saw an interview with a couple who had been married for 75 years and they said their secret to staying together was "just staying together."  They never gave up when the road got rocky.  That really resonated with me.  And I am so proud of Christian and myself for always hanging in there even when marriage was more work that we thought.  But I believe we work so well because we are truly committed to each other forever.  We love each other. We even like each other!  And most importantly we still make each other laugh.  Nobody can make me laugh like Christian can!

And now that we have our 2 beautiful boys Jack and Gavin, we are more committed than ever! I still find it so amazing that they are a part of both Chris and me.  It's so cool!  They are great kids and we are so blessed to have such an awesome little family.  Parenthood can be difficult but there is nothing in the world more enjoyable or rewarding.  Christian and I can't wait to experience the second half of our lives through the eyes of our children.  And who knows, maybe there is #3 in our future!

Tonight we're going to do what we do every year for our anniversary - have a good dinner, eat cake and watch our wedding video.  It always brings us back to that special day and reminds us of why we married each other in the first place.  The only difference is that this year we will have our two little chickens on the couch with us.  Gavin won't really get it - he'll probably be wishing that Mickey Mouse was on TV.  But we're hoping Jack will love watching us on TV.  And we'll explain to him that it was the day his mommy and daddy got married and that because we love each other so much, we had him and his brother.  And we'll tell him that he never has to worry because his mommy and daddy will be watching this video with him for many, many years to come.  Because neither of us are going anywhere!

So as much as I struggled with what to write, I obviously had a hard time narrowing down the pictures to post.  I feel like we have thousands of pictures of all the fun things we have done.  I was overwhelmed at the thought of trying to pick just a few.  But as I looked through them I realized how much time we have spent at the beach - it has always been a special place for us so there are no shortage of pictures in that theme. So I have compiled a few pics of us, all of which were taken on a beach somewhere in the world.  I think they tell a sweet little story of our life so far...

May 2000 - The first day we met on the "beach" in Lake Havasu, AZ.  Who would have thought these 2 crazy kids would one day get married...

May 2011 - Our first vacation together for our one year dating anniversary!  We were in Cancun and it was so much fun!  Geez, we look so young!  Notice my hair in braids - what was I thinking?!

April 2002 - Engagement photos in Laguna Beach...

August 2002 - Our honeymoon in Hawaii! What an amazing trip...

July 2007 - Hilton Head, NC.  One of many trips we took to a southeastern beach after we moved to Atlanta.  One of the things we loved about living in the south was all the amazing beaches we got to visit out there....

August 2008 - Fort Lauderdale, FL.  Florida may be cheesy but I love it!  We spent a lot of time at the Florida beaches and they are just gorgeous...

More from Florida....ahhhh, not a care in the world...but that would soon change...

May 2009 - After 7 years of just the two of us, we decided to bring a few babies into our family.  Here I am trying to look sexy in La Jolla, CA...but it's hard to be sexy when you're 7 months pregnant...

October 2009 - Jack's first trip to the Laguna Beach!

October 2011 - Back home in Cali!  Gavin's first trip to Laguna Beach...

July 2012 - our little family today!  In Laguna Beach of course.  How lucky are we that we get to live here now...

Here's hoping the next 10 years are more amazing than the first!
