Happy Father's Day to ME!

.
My first Father's Day Card- frigg'n awesome! Click on card to read it....
Yo.....
Greetings family and other assorted babyD blog stalkers....it's been awhile since I've tickled the keys in Blog world....I must say that Jilla is quite amazing for keeping up with this and at such a rapid pace lately- it's true testament to what an amazing Mom she has become- she's mastered the art of multi-tasking- no doubt. I on the other hand was tasked to write ONE entry for Father's Day...and as you can see today is July 2nd- I only missed it by like 3 weeks! My last entry was...yep- almost one year ago to the day....when I blogged about farting. Which segues nicely into one of my greatest weekends ever...My FIRST Father's Day! My special weekend kicked off on Saturday with a leisurely post 7am sleep-in, greeted in bed by my 2 most favorite people in the world and then downstairs for a huge breakfast- southern style. Jilla had cooked up Paula Deen's baked french toast with a generous side of bacon and OJ- it was delicious and satisfied my carb intake for the next 2 weeks.

I also had this waiting for me downstairs... a basket full of all my favorites- Orange-n-Cream Soda, white chocolate covered Ritz PB crackers, cherry heads, lemonheads, tropical twizzlers- basically nothing Jill likes...it's a strategy people- imagine if I liked dark chocolate? The basket would be much smaller....

The rest of Saturday was "Dad's Day"- Jilla had asked me repeatedly what I wanted to do- and simply all I wanted was a lazy day with the family...maybe a lil US Open action...a nap...couple Chicago Dawgs....repeat. I have a fond childhood memory of my own Father always napping on the weekend afternoons in his Lazy Boy- and he always happened to nap it seemed while watching golf. Back then I just thought, "that's what Dad's do"...and since then I've always had that in the back of my mind- I couldn't wait for the day when I was a Dad and I could take a nap in the middle of the day while watching a lil golf on the television. So yea...that's what I did. And it was awesome! I can see why Big D was a fan...maybe it's Johnny Miller's voice that soothes you into a coma....but whatever, I can't wait till next year.

In between the french toast and my golf nap...we hit the pool. Jack is at the most amazing age right now- overnight he has truly become my lil buddy. He's always had a lil thing for his dad, but now he's at that age where I can truly see that bond forming between father & son. He loves to rough house, wrestle....get tossed around and sometimes we'll just stare at each other and break into laughter. He was a total wild man at the pool and I loved every minute of it....there is no doubt he is all boy and I am one proud Father.... (lest his recent infatuation with Jill's blush compact & eye shadow- which I had to pry out of his hands before dropping him off at school the other day)
Father & son testing out the limits of making Mom nervous.....

Simply fearless...I'm only holding him with one hand on his stomach...this is his 3rd time at the pool....ever.

I'm not channeling my inner pirate...lot of chlorine in that kids pool, man...

Once we got home from the pool...it was nappy time for both of us....then if the day couldn't go any better- we ended it with a dinner fit for a King. Jilla ordered takeout from Dog Days Chicago Dawgs Restaurant here in town. Authentic Chicago Style dogs all the way down to the nuclear green relish. Yummmm...Pure Divinity....then Tums.

You can't really tell...but I'm one very happy Dad in this photo- taken at our brunch on Sunday after Church....

All in all it was a truly special first Father's Day for me.....God has certaintly blessed me with an amazing wife and son. I could never imagine being this happy and content as I am right now....sans the stomach pains and heartburn after Saturday nights dinner.

Signed,

One very lucky guy....

  1. Christian! That was one awesome blog! You are a great dad, took to it just like the champ I knew you were. Jack is so lucky to have you! I love you and your little man! And it's ok if you want to be a pirate, we won't judge :-)
